Today we traveled a lot again. We have a car here that we can drive to the most remote corners of the stage. We only see a few performers, they live in holes and are otherwise rather shy. A performer wears a headdress with feathers. Maybe we can still take a picture, then we can show it at home.

The performance steppe songs tells of a journey through a sinking country. The theater collective went to Lusatia in East Saxony, where they visited the lignite mine, a wolf museum and an Indian hobby club. You drove your car through the landscapes shaped by the intervention of the lignite industry and looked for “ghost villages”. The aim of the trip was to collect impressions and materials and to fictionalise the found objects in order to create an apocalyptic scenario. The result is a format with which the group tells of a journey through a sinking country and goes in search of the construction of national identities. Steppengesänge was awarded the Körber Studio Prize for Young Direction in Hamburg in 2014.
